SANTO DOMINGO.-President Luis Abinader announced last night that the Government is carrying out a survey of the entire management structure of the last administration “to see where the money of the Dominicans was wasted”, and warned that no one will go unpunished if they have misused the money of the Dominican people.
“Rest assured, no one will go unpunished if they have misappropriated the people’s money,” said the head of state in an elocution to the country from the National Palace on the occasion of his first month of assuming power.
And he warned: “For this reason we designate an independent Public Ministry, whose attorney must act autonomously and only guided by the Constitution and the laws of the Republic. A momentous change in our history ”.
“Today, just a month ago, I was sworn in as President of the Republic. And today I want to speak to you, Dominican men and women. It is you who chose me. It is you who voted for a change.
It is you with whom we are going to transform this country, “stressed the president, who immediately presented a report on his main achievements. Especially to face the Covid-19 pandemic and reactivate the national productive sectors in the middle of the pandemic.
He said that this Tuesday he presented his affidavit of assets, noting that “it is the first time in history that it is done in a detailed and transparent way.”
Citing his first management achievements, Abinader highlighted the deployment of an intense reform agenda “to make the change we promised you a reality.”
He explained that the first thing that was done was to implement urgent actions against Covid-19, among which he highlighted the inclusion of two million people in the National Health Service, so that from this year there will be universal and free coverage for all Dominicans.
In his opinion, “this is the most ambitious plan that a government has ever implemented in the health sector in the history of our country.”
He said that this action plan already begun to contain the expansion of Covid-19 includes the massive performance of PCR tests, the hiring of 1,000 doctors who were unemployed, the authorization of more public laboratories and the authorization of private laboratories to carry out more tests, increase in the availability of beds, and inclusion and participation of municipalities and social organizations in the management of this crisis.
Abinader said that in the midst of this situation, the government has not neglected the rest of its priorities. “No citizen,” he said, “is going to face this crisis that threatens their lives alone. We are by their side to help them ”.
In that sense, he highlighted the allocation of 40 billion pesos so that young people do not lose opportunities for their future, and the implementation of new plans for public education both in material resources and in the training and capacity of teachers .
The president stressed that they have quickly adapted to the circumstances imposed on them by the crisis in which they found the public administration, because upon their arrival to the government they found that there was no planned plan.
