AGENCIES.-The movie “Pain and Glory” and the series “La casa de papel” were the winners of the VII edition of the Xcaret Platinum Awards for Latin American Cinema, whose list of winners was made public on Monday on YouTube due to the impossibility of holding a gala for the coronavirus pandemic.
During a reading of winners full of nostalgia for the face-to-face galas of past editions and with a fast pace without applause or emotional speeches, the Spanish productions took the recognition of this celebration to the union of Ibero-American cinema.
The Spanish production “Dolor y Gloria” was the winner in the sections for best film, director, script, male performer (Antonio Banderas), original music and editing direction. Pedro Almodóvar’s name was repeated twice – for best direction and best screenplay.
“Dolor y gloria” reviews the best and worst moments of Almodóvar’s own life, emphasizing those that are part of the director’s imagination, a fundamental figure in Spanish cinema.
The filmmaker adds these awards to the one he already got in 2017, when he won Platinum for best direction for “Julieta”.
Likewise, the film had already been recognized in numerous festivals, after being selected to represent Spain in the Oscars and obtaining seven statuettes in the Goya Awards of the 15 to which it was eligible.
