SANTO DOMINGO.-Three precincts came into operation yesterday after being expanded as part of the Penitentiary Humanization Plan, with the aim of eliminating the overcrowding that, for decades, affects the country’s prisons, to guarantee through rehabilitation programs, the reintegration into society .
The attorney Jean Rodríguez said that the centers left in operation are: Comprehensive Care Centers for Adolescents in Conflict with the Criminal Law (CAIPACPL) Ciudad del Niño and Batey Welcome, both in Santo Domingo Oeste, as well as the Correction and Rehabilitation Center from Dajabón.
The centers house a total of 550 minors in conflict with the law, between 13 and 17 years old, and will be able to continue with their formal education and will take courses such as pottery, computers, and others.
Each center has a new educational administrative building with reception areas, infirmary, dentistry, psychology, classrooms, computer workshops, pottery, music, commissaries, observation room, dining room, kitchen, monitoring center, meeting rooms, classrooms beauty, barber shop, lactation room, 14 houses, watchtowers, mixed sports fields and cultivation areas.
The magistrate explained that CAIPACPL works under the concept of micro community, which is a pedagogical structure through personalized work.
