SANTO DOMINGO.– The Mixed Commission designated by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), announced yesterday the start-up of the first phase of the de-escalation, through which the 14 complexes and sports centers nationwide will be open for recreation, including the Center Olympic Juan Pablo Duarte.
The commission is chaired by Bernardo Mesa (Tony), accompanied by Valentín Contreras, Nelson Ramírez, Rafael Villalona, Julio Miñoso, Gregory Medina, as well as Minister Danilo Díaz and double Olympic champion Félix Sánchez. Díaz explained that “this first phase includes only the athletes’ preparation stage (not competitions).”
He reported that on Thursday, July 2, the disciplines of golf and field tennis may begin their activities, the natural characteristic of which is distancing or not physical contact, as recommended by the protocol issued by the Ministry of Public Health.
He said that athletes from other sports will be able to start their preparation from July 8.
He said that if everything goes well with respect to pandemic control, “we hope to be able to move to the competitive part of all sports at the beginning of next August.”
