SANTO DOMINGO.- The presidential candidate of Fuerza del Pueblo and allied parties, Leonel Fernández, reiterated in an interview given to CNN Radio that he estimates there will be a second round, since this Sunday, July 5, the presidential and congressional elections are held in the Republic Dominican.
He recalled that his departure from the Dominican Liberation Party generated a bubble that favored the candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) with about 10 more points, specifying that “that only recovers in a second electoral round” with the recomposition of the directed Peledeista vote to the People’s Force.
“We understand that this is only possible through the People’s Force,” said Fernández, explaining that if they try to impose the official candidate again, the PLD would lose if they qualified for the second round, which he said, does not believe that may be possible.
When the journalist Leo Medvedoff pointed out that Sol América, a recognized Latin American portal, in an article he says that the latest surveys place Luis Abinader 46.5%, Leonel Fernández 24.6% for second place and Gonzalo Castillo 24.4% for A third place, Fernández said those numbers are closer “more or less to reality.”
“I think that what you say more or less approximates the reality of these moments, but I will tell you something, even prestigious firms have not been able to show the reality in the Dominican Republic,” said the FP president.
Leonel Fernández said that with a view to next Sunday, the day the elections are held, what he sees is that there will be a second round, because “where there are three competing forces, it is very difficult for one to win the first round. “

Fernández pointed out that his electoral bet, despite the fact that the FP has only been in training for 8 months, is that he can qualify and go to the second round, and what would follow is to try to recompose the Pelledeista vote.
