Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic will continue to use the drug hydroxychloroquine in therapy for patients with coronavirus, reported the Minister of Health, Dr. Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas.
The official revealed that, however, health authorities make forecasts about its intrahospital use and in patients with heart and skin segment disorder of electrocardiograms (heart rhythm disorder that can cause rapid and chaotic beats, with consequences in sudden fainting and seizures), “to which should not be supplied.”
He clarified that the suspension of clinical trials announced by the World Health Organization.

He said that, in the absence of a recommended therapy in Covid-19 patients, nations have used hydroxychloroquine with specific indications in patients in which it can give results.
“The Ministry (of Health) issued a protocol for the treatment with that drug; it is in force, it will not be interrupted ”, he stressed, after reading bulletin 68 with a report on the situation of Covid-19 in the country.
He recalled that the country participates in an international study by the WHO and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
“The countries have been using experiences that are presented in clinical settings and previous or subsequent research in treatments that the countries have made decisions following the right of self-determination in their health systems, but taking into account the guidelines, in the case of Dominican Republic, of the WHO ”, he specified.
According to bulletin 68, read this Wednesday by the minister, it reveals that those infected in the country amount to 15 thousand 723, with 459 new cases in the last 24 hours; 474 deceased, six new.
The processed clinical samples amount to 73,000 to 121, there are 8,890 recovered patients, the case fatality rate is 3.01 percent and the positivity rate is 18.87.
