SANTO DOMINGO.- Deputy José Santana Suriel (Bertico), from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), was elected to preside over the Finance Commission of the Lower House.
The Finance Commission is made up of 15 deputies, and is responsible for matters pertaining to the Government’s fiscal and economic policy, the strategic guidelines approved by the National Development Council, and the legislation concerning the tax and customs regimes.
Also the legal regulations regarding the exemption of taxes, fees and rights, salary policy of the public sector, stock market, public securities, stamped species, among others.
Santana, who is a representative of the constituency number 2 of the Santo Domingo province, has worked in the permanent commissions of the Chamber of Accounts, Planning and Public Debt, Finance and Contracts, in addition to being a member of the National Executive Committee (CEN) of the PRM.
The legislator has promoted several draft laws and resolutions, among which the request for the completion of the extension of the San Lorenzo de Los Minas Maternity, the completion of the Barrera Sanidad aqueduct of Santo Domingo Este, as well as a resolution through the which requests to declare a state of emergency on the banks of the Ozama River.
The function of the committees of the Chamber of Deputies is to study the legislative initiatives of which they are empowered and to submit to the plenary the respective reports with the recommendations it deems pertinent for their approval.
